Let the Adventure Begin!

My first post to my first blog. About what shall I write? Should I discuss how I became inspired to write my first book, Cherry Tree Dares: Essays on Childhood? Should I compose about the writing process? Decisions, decisions!

Either way, I am faced with the same dilemma all creative people endure, which is nothingness. Artists stare at empty canvases. Sculptors ponder a lump of stone. Writers confront a white page, whether electronic or paper. Turning that blank space into something containing words is the challenge.

Each writer’s process is different. How the muse presents herself comes in various forms. But appear she must if words are to combine into comprehensible thoughts.

For me, I have often had a story coalesce in my mind whenever it felt like it—often at 5:00 a.m. while half sleeping. I have been known to arise and flip on the computer at that hour. I have to get the composition out of my head and onto paper so I can go back to sleep!

How and when do you write? What inspires you? Post your comments on my Facebook author page, www.facebook.com/IleneWDevlinAuthor.

Happy writing!
